So, this here is just my practice book, made from cereal boxed and such. I really just wanted to get a feel for possibility. Here I just broke up a styrofoam cup and glued it together in the ice cream form, painted with acrylics, and added gel medium and glitter. Like I said, this was just a practice, but just imagine...
So go out there, find garbage, and use it!
And...
Last night I braved the slick roads and went to Whimsy, a paint studio and bar!!!, my favorite little outing. It was one of those nights where they teach you a painting, but of course you can do as you wish. I always choose to do as I wish, but still keeping in with the theme for the night. It was all about colorful butterflies, and I knew this would be a perfect Christmas gift for my little painter. She adores painting faces now, and loves girl everything. This measures 16x24, I think. A colorful addition to Maddy's new space. A little mix of me, and a whole lot of her! I was a bit sad not to start with collaged papers, but even I, at the young age of 35, must let it go once in a while!

ReplyDelete...and Whimsy sounds just that....whimsical!!! Lucky girl :D
Hi!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, the fact that you used Styrofoam cups to create such beauty really blows my mind! You really use recycled things beautifully - have you considered submitting to Stampington's Green mag? Cereal boxes and cups - so perfect!
Secondly, I SO WISH I could be there with you at the art bar - sounds like soooo much fun and I LOVE what you created while there - what a special gift, lucky girl ;)
Have a great weekend, xoxoxoxo
Lovely work, and a great idea to use styrofoam cups - I have some in my *bottomless pit* aka the hall closet so will have to dig them out and have a try! Thanks for the inspiration, and have a great weekend! Valerie
ReplyDeleteI want to lick that ice cream! :)) Looks so yummy! Amazing work!
ReplyDeleteYou never know what happens when you experiment with materials and techniques. I love using things normally thrown away! Good job! Patsy from

The experimenting is a wonderful change. The butterflies are free for you and me. . . that is sort of the picture I painted at your age, albeit with Ocean and palms, in my Women's Studies class. I enjoy this. Blessings, Janet PPF
ReplyDeleteI love the ice cream cones! The texture and dimension is amazing! What a special gift the second piece is. Beautiful work! :)
ReplyDeleteI wish there was someplace I could go to in my town like this art bar. It would be wonderful to be out with like minded people. I like both of your works in this post. I would never have thought of using the cups to make beautiful art. I love the little girl painting, my girls would have loved it when they were young.
ReplyDeleteThe ice cream cone is really beautiful.I love textures. Very good idea :)
ReplyDeletewhat a great idea to use styrofoam! And i love the girl, so pretty. It sounds like an awesome night!

The ice cream is charming and delightful! Great job! Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteTotally cute, fun, colorful, amazingness. Wow, a bar that lets you paint and drink?? Sounds like a wonderful place to go...haha! I love how your girl and butterflies turned out. And I am always in awe of your recycling art projects! The ice cream looks good enough to eat! :P
ReplyDeleteI love the ice cream!!! I love your art and how fun and free and messy (good messy, lol) it is!!! Just keep doing what you're doing and who cares what Somerset likes and doesn't like (post below)!! They tend to stick to a certain style, but don't let that influence or sway your art... just do what feels right and true to YOU. I love what you do!

i didn't know you could paint styrofoam. i would have assumed that it would have drunk up the paint til it looked like it was barely there.
ReplyDeleteit looks so pretty!
Cool use of materials. Lovely girl, she looks so sweet.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by my blog with well wishes!! I LOVE the ice cream cone...so smart!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you all! The thought of ice cream right now is not too appealing, as it is in the negative degrees here, but just experimenting really! .
ReplyDeleteSherilin, styrofoam NEVER decomposes, so it is the most ideal trash to paint on!
Love that you used styrofoam cups for the ice cream and it looks great! Maddy is going to love the butterfly painting, I'm sure!
ReplyDeleteVery cool use of the styrofoam. It takes the sparkle to a new level. Love the cute girl and butterflies. It should be a big hit.
